I couldn’t resist stopping off at Marina Beach yesterday while on my way to picking up my eldest from football practice. I could see the golden rays beaming through the clouds from Highway 1 and did a quick stop. Oh it was so worth it.

My youngest, my nephew, and I raced down the sandy dune to the water just to see who could get there first. I won, but barely. These kids are getting quick and usually I go a little easy on them but running down the sandy beach was just too much fun to hold back! What we saw after we caught our breaths took it back away. See below:

We were at Marina Beach for just 15 minutes but man our timing was spot on this time.  Not only did those 15 minutes allow us to see this magnificent sunset, but more importantly it allowed the three of us to share it together.  Goes to show it’s not the amount of minutes  you spend with those you love, but the quality in those minutes.

And by the way I let my boys beat me back to the car, but hey it was uphill and in the sand.  Well,  maybe I didn’t let them… 

I’ve always loved the rain. I can still remember when I was 7 and how I would love playing outside in the down pour.  Most kids love this I know but I never grew out of it. While most people are running for their cars, homes, stores, or wherever to get out of the rain, I actually walk slower than usual all the while taking in the natural wonder of rainfall.

It doesn’t rain often here in Monterey but when it does one thing is for certain…GORGEOUS Sunsets!!!  Don’t miss them, even if it means watching them from your car. Head out to Pacific Grove and hit  Sunset Blvd (wonder why it’s named that…) near Asilomar.  It is one of the best places to catch the sunset in your car or otherwise. If you’re like me and need to be out and about don’t forget your hoodie sweatshirt, windbreaker, beanie, and yes gloves. It gets cold here, especially from the wind chill when you’re on the beach!

I took this photo yesterday evening in Pacific Grove shortly after the sun went down and it didn’t turn out too bad.  I just missed the sun being low in the sky by 15 minutes as I arrived too late due to traffic.  Be at your sunset viewing spot roughly 45 minutes before sundown.  This will give plenty of time to find parking and to really relax and ease into one of our many daily miracles.

Monarchs in Pacific Grove!!! Check out this video of Monarch Butterflies here in Monterey Bay California. They usually arrive here in October and stay until March. The video below shows them “clustering” which they do to stay warm during the winter months. Come see them at the Monarch Sanctuary between the months of October and March!
